History and purpose of MaffeMaaksels.nl and DutchSteamPunkers.nl and DutchSteamPunks.nl

Initially, MaffeMaaksels.nl was a forumsite, built on SMF 2.0

Purpose was to make a platform available for Dutch creators of weird, out-of-line contraptions/creations. with a special place for dutch steampunkers. Somewhere along the timeline we wished to add some standard publishing pages to the forum and added Simpleportal to SMF. However, flexibility of Simpleportal was quite low.

Site was rebuilt using (in chronological order): Joomla (rather complicated for a small site), WordPress (not flexible enough..limited functionality), and drupal…..The last site ran on drupal 6. Drupal offered enough flexibility, without being too complicated. We also left behind the dutch language here. In drupal we had an embedded  forum. But after a while the forum-module appeared to be not as good as smf.  We also added a subsite to send webcards and an integrated guestbook.

Update 060609: logging in to SMF apart from the main site was considered user unfriendly, so now we have a small forum functionality within the main site.

Update 200609: domain dutchsteampunks.nl added to the old domain.

Update 311009: site is being rebuilt with wordpress, just because we can and for speed-up reasons!

And last but not least: a special THANK YOU to Wildcard, who designed the original logo for MaffeMaaksels.nl. It will be made visible on the background of the current logo of this site shortly.
